Moment by Moment

Clover Clad (A.E. Houseman-1896); (Bruce Anthony, Phil Disera) 2004
(C) (P) 2005; BMI; ISRC

This song is based on a poem written by A. E. Houseman from a book of poems, a Shropshire Lad in 1896. It was required reading when I attended University. This is a beautiful poem that inspired me to write the music to it soon after the first reading. Many years later I revise the original version and collaborated with Phil Disera to add a chorus line that was meaningful and would capture the poems essence.

Lyrics:

Along the fields as we came by
A year ago my love and I
The aspen over stile and stone
Was talking to itself alone
Oh who are these that kiss and pass
A country lover and his lass
Two lovers looking to be wed
And time shall put them both to bed
But she will lie with earth above
And he beside another love……
Love, love another love……

Chorus:
All the seasons live to die
All to easily passing by
With each moment may your heart fly
All that matters in the end
Is the love that you extend
With each moment love again
Sure enough beneath the tree
There walks another love with me
And overhead the aspen heaves
Its rainy sounding silver leaves
But I spell nothing in their stir
Perhaps now they speak to her
And plain for her to understand
They talk about a time at hand
When I shall lay with clover clad
And she beside another lad……
Lad, lad another lad……

Chorus:
All the seasons live to die
All to easily passing by
With each moment may your heart fly
All that matters in the end
Is the love that you extend
With each moment love again
